Questions we get asked
Straight answers on inspections, compliance and working with us. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.
How often do Ex inspections need doing?
BS EN IEC 60079-17 says periodic inspections should not normally be more than three years apart. The right interval for your site depends on the equipment, how harsh its environment is, and what earlier inspections found. We'll recommend one and write down why.
What should we have ready for an inspection?
Your hazardous area classification drawings, the Ex equipment register and certificates, and previous inspection records. If some of that is missing, tell us. Rebuilding it is part of what we do.
What's the difference between ATEX and IECEx?
ATEX is the European and UK legal framework for equipment and workplaces with explosive atmospheres (in Great Britain, UKEX marking is now used alongside it). IECEx is the international certification scheme. Both use the same Ex marking system, and we work with equipment certified under either.
What does DSEAR require of us?
The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 require employers to assess explosion risks, classify hazardous areas into zones, and make sure equipment in those zones is suitable and maintained. Inspection records are how you show that last part.
Can you produce hazardous area classification drawings?
Yes. We produce classification drawings and the calculations that support them, and we can review existing drawings against how your site runs today.
Do you do non-Ex electrical and instrument work?
Yes. Installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair and fault-finding on industrial electrical and instrumentation equipment, in safe areas as well as hazardous ones.
Are you Constructionline registered?
Yes, we hold Constructionline Silver membership, so our compliance documents are already checked and available to buyers on the register.
Where do you work?
We're based in Falkirk and work on sites across Scotland. If your site is further afield, get in touch and we'll tell you straight away whether we can help.
How do we get a quote?
Use the enquiry form or email enquiries@ex-ceptionalengineering.com. Tell us the site, the type and rough number of items, the zones involved and your timescale. We'll come back with a scope and price.
Need an Ex inspection or a pair of hands on site?
Tell us what the site is, what's installed and when you need it done. We'll come back with a clear scope and quote.
